The Spirit of Reciprocity and Doing It the Right Way

October 20, 2008 (1VIZABILITY.COM - News)

There are a lot of ways on how you can build links, and one of the most effective is called reciprocal link building. The process entails that you add a link of a related but non-competing website into yours, and the other will do the same. Thus, both of you can benefit from the traffic and will have more references to share to your respective Internet users.

However, reciprocal linking is actually not a very easy feat, since the decision to link will not be entirely left into your hands. If you’re denied for any link from them, then you cannot also add them to yours, and you cannot benefit from huge amounts of traffic.

Today, you will learn some tricks on how to boost your chances of getting reciprocal links:

1. Go for relevancy. Stop thinking about page ranks and focus more on relevancy, even on your links. This is because search engines, especially Google, love the latter. So if your website is about pet accessories, make sure that you can look for website owners operating pages about different kinds of dogs or animal-related webpages.

2. Avoid trusting too much on page ranks. In truth, a page rank tells the position of a website three months ago. Thus, not all high-ranking webpages will get the same kind of PR in the next few months, and not all zero PRs are not ideal for reciprocal linking. In fact, it’s advisable to link to newer websites since they are more receptive to reciprocal linking, and once they gain PR, you can benefit from it too. Just ensure, though, that their contents are well-written and relevant to yours.

3. It should have excellent link building ethics. Link farms, for one, are normally penalized by Google, and if you link to them, you will surely feel the “wrath” of the search engine, which means you can have lower rank too. If you’ve linked to a broken page, you will also hurt your PR. Hence, it’s also important to analyze the linking strategies of the other website before you link, so you will not compromise your own techniques.
