Microsoft CEO Acquiring More than 20 Companies Next Year

October 3, 2008 (1VIZABILITY.COM - SEO News)

It’s no-brainer to conclude that when it comes to searchability and search engines, Google is the name. However, other well-known engines are fast catching up—or at least determined to do so. Take, for example, Microsoft.

Microsoft owns MSN, which is ranking way below than Google. In fact, based on market share, as reported by Hitwise, MSN only as 5.32 percent compared to 71.01 percent of Google. Nevertheless, it doesn’t mean that they’re really giving up.

Most of the talks about Microsoft today revolve around Seinfeld and their new version of Windows, but Steve Ballmer, the corporation’s CEO, gives you a hint that the battle against Google is far from over. They are more than willing and totally persistent to compete with the search engine giant.

The process, however, doesn’t offer instant result. In fact, it will be spread over five years. One of the major strategies they are going to implement will be acquisition of smaller companies, those that are worth under billions of dollars. This doesn’t mean that they don’t have the money to do so. It’s just that they believe that smaller ones actually have the essential technology as well as the people in place. All they need to do is to add their Microsoft power touch, and everything will already be good to go.

This is different from getting those that are worth billions, since they already have a brand, which may be too difficult to remove, especially if it’s already well-known. Nevertheless, the company is not really settling for just a few of them. They are eyeing between 20 and 25 companies by 2009.

Though Microsoft is known to be too competitive and successful in the end, we aren’t really sure if it’s the same thing when it comes to matching powers against Google (since, most definitely, Google will also be stepping up to its plate). All of us, though, will surely enjoy the developments that will soon happen in search market.
